An Openbill Stork Fishing

An Openbill Stork Fishing

The only Openbill Stork I have ever seen in the wild.

Purple-crested Turaco

Purple-crested Turaco

Another bird I finally saw on my last trip to Kruger National Park! After hearing them for years in forests I've walked through, and many living near a friend's house in Louis Trichardt. I finally saw more first Purple Created Turaco just outside our hut while staying at Pretoriuskop Camp!

Leopard Relaxing in the Midday Heat

Leopard Relaxing in the Midday Heat

A lone Leopard resting and surveying it's surroundings during the heat of the day.

The story behind this photo is kind of funny. Driving down a dirt road in the north of the Kruger National Park with a friend. We had been following a car about 150m back for ages. It pulled into a little overlook over a dry riverbed and quickly left. I decided to stop to increase the distance between us and them. Very quickly I notice this white patch across the riverbed, turns out to be this gorgeous Leopard. We end up being the only people watching this Leopard. What a nice sighting!

The first successful lion hunt I've seen after being in South Africa over the past few years. After the three Lionesses made the kill the Impala was in 10 minutes!

Ground Hornbills at Sunrise

Ground Hornbills at Sunrise

Strangely one of my favourite experiences. Driving through Kruger National Park near Shingwedzi Rest Camp first thing in the morning and stumble across this small family of Southern Ground Hornbills calling and joining in in the dawn chorus.

It is said that Leopard Tortoises are one of the few tortoises that can swim. One day after some heavy rain we saw this little guy making it’s way across a flooded hole

Elusive Leopardess

After hearing monkeys and birds giving alarm cools all afternoon, we knew something was near camp. Eventually we briefly saw this elusive female Leopard dashing across in the open on the other side of the damn

Last time, this gorgeous Lion, Sonof (Son of Big Boy) was seen in the reserve he grew up in. He is still alive, he was just pushed out by a collation of males and found a new home in a different reserve.

Cheetah Baboon Conflict

Cheetah Baboon Conflict

Not a great photo but a great sighting. After the monkeys were giving alarm calls this morning we find a female Cheetah, who had recently eaten, being mobbed by Baboons. They were persistent and unrelenting. In this photo you can see the aggression; the dust being thrown up by the large male Baboon as he charged; the bright red mouth and the teeth of the Cheetah as she hisses and retaliates.

One day while walking through the Tangkoko National Park I was determined to get this photo for a Sulawesi Crested Macaque. This big boy was showing off to the other males and the females in the troop. However, with how long I was following this guy I'm certain this was a warning intended for me.
