I was a back-up guide on this 2 hour walk.

WE began our walk heading towards the nearest dam as it is a good place to see wildlife and pick up tracks and signs. As we approached the dam a troop of Baboons arrived. We decided to position ourselves somewhere that we would have a good view of their visit and not disturb them. We were fortunate and had the wind in our favour. A few came to the dam to have a drink but soon they became aware of us and we left.

As we continued our walk we stopped occasionally to practice and refresh our tracks and signs knowledge. Later our mentor had set up a poaching situation simulation in the bush to learn the key signs to look for if you stumble upon a poaching scene. This also included how to track humans, especially poachers, in this situation. During the walk we also began to have surprise drills for Dangerous Game charges – Elephant and Leopard on this walk.
